A late goal by Tomi Juric guided Western Sydney Wanderers to a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United as they took over at the top of the fledgling A-League table.

Adelaide had gone ahead through Marcelo Carrusca after 54 minutes but their lead lasted just six minutes when Juric got his first goal of the day to equalise against his former club.

The 22-year-old then struck 10 minutes from time to inflict a second defeat of the season on the club he played for this year on a short-term contract before his move to Sydney.

Victory takes the hosts -- last season's losing Grand Finalists -- two points clear of Brisbane Roar.

Perth Glory overcame Sydney FC 1-0 to remain within touching distance of league leaders Western Sydney Wanderers.

Steven McGarry scored the game's only goal on nine minutes as he tucked away from the penalty spot after Ryo Nagai was felled.

The hosts' goal came when Japanese winger Ryo Nagai was brought down in the middle of the penalty area by Sydney goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic.

Replays showed Nagai was offside by at least a metre when teammate Jamie Maclaren crossed the ball, but referee Ben Williams was quick to blow his whistle and hand Janjetovic a yellow card, with Nicky Carle also booked for remonstrating as the visitors protested the decision.

The result means Perth Glory are a point behind first-placed Western Sydney Wanderers, with both sides having played four games apiece.

In Saturday's other A-League game, the fourth-placed Central Coast Mariners hit back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at the Newcastle Jets.

The Jets surged ahead early in the second half thanks to a Scott Neville strike and a Justin Pasfield own goal, but Marcos Flores halved the deficit with a 65th-minute penalty and then Mile Sterjovski salvaged a point by grabbing an equaliser 10 minutes from time.
