Rosenberg keen on West Brom exit

Markus Rosenberg faces a battle to leave West Bromwich Albion in January -- with the Premier League club likely to demand 1.5 million pounds for a permanent transfer.

Markus Rosenberg: A key to West Brom's chances this season.
Markus Rosenberg is yet to score for West Brom.

Evans: Striker struggles

Sweden international Rosenberg claims he will be forced to look for a new club when the winter transfer window opens because of the lack of opportunities under Albion head coach Steve Clarke.

Several Championship clubs have already made enquiries about taking the 31-year-old on loan, but sources linked to the striker have told ESPN that Rosenberg has no interest in dropping down into the second tier of English football.

Albion signed the free agent from Werder Bremen in August 2012 and Rosenberg still has 18 months of his contract to run at the Hawthorns, so any permanent move back to Europe would come at a price.

Rosenberg has ambitions to return to his former club Malmo, who have just won the Swedish championship, but his wages, which are in the region of 20,000 pounds-a-week, will prove a major stumbling block.

Dutch and German clubs have also made tentative enquiries about Rosenberg's availability and representatives of the player are hoping to start negotiations with WBA technical and sporting director Richard Garlick in the next few weeks to see if an arrangement can be made for Rosenberg to move on loan for the rest of the season.

Rosenberg is eager to play top flight football in Europe to push his chances of making Erik Hamren's World Cup squad, should Sweden defeat Portugal and reach the finals in Brazil next summer.

He has lost his place in the Sweden squad since figuring in a friendly against England earlier this year and his chances of achieving a recall are slim after falling down the pecking order spectacularly since returning for preseason and impressing Clarke.

Albion signed four strikers this summer, with Matej Vydra, Victor Anichebe, Nicolas Anelka and Stephane Sessegnon moving to the club and Rosenberg has told Swedish reporters he is frustrated with his situation and will seek to resolve it after Christmas.

He has started just nine games and has yet to score in 33 appearances, but told he told Fotbollskanalen.se: "The manager says that I will get the chance but I never get it. We have a big squad and he chooses other players.

"It is a tough time and it has been for almost one-and-a-half years. I will wait until the transfer window in January and will see if I have got playing time by then. If nothing has happened, I will have to sit down and talk with the club."
