Monaco interest in Valdes confirmed

Ludovic Giuly has confirmed Monaco's interest in signing Victor Valdes when the Spain international goalkeeper leaves Barcelona this summer.

Victor Valdes wants to play abroad when his Barcelona contract expires.
Victor Valdes has been tipped to swap Catalonia for the French Riviera.

Valdes, 31, has already announced he will not renew his contract at the Camp Nou when it expires in June, and declared on French TV earlier this month he would welcome a move to Ligue 1 and Monaco in particular.

Speaking on BeIN Sport, Valdes' former Barca teammate Giuly, 37, said the man he played alongside in Catalonia between 2004 and 2007 had contacted him with regard to a move to the Stade Louis II.

"He's been at Barca since he was young. He wants to discover something more calm, with less pressure. He needs to find out about something new, and I know Monaco have contacted him discreetly many times already," said Giuly, who established his own reputation during six years at Monaco before joining Barca, and then returned for the 2011-12 promotion campaign under Claudio Ranieri.

"He's also talked to me about it. We've discussed it, and he's happy they have been in touch. I don't know which decision he'll take, but there has been contact. We'd be happy to see him at Monaco."
