Rush denies Hughes' link to Reds

Derby County chief executive Sam Rush denied Andre Wisdom’s loan move to the Rams will lead to Liverpool signing young midfielder Will Hughes.

England Under-21 international Will Hughes is a star in the making for Derby
Speculation linking Will Hughes to Liverpool has been denied by Derby County's Sam Rush.

• Edwards: Hughes impresses

Hughes has begun to catch the eye at Pride Park and speculation has hinted the 18-year-old’ future lie at Anfield – especially since Wisdom signed for Steve McClaren’s men.

But Rush said Wisdom’s move was solely to “further his football education” while quashing rumours of Hughes exiting the club.

"I think the Andre Wisdom deal was very much as a result of Liverpool's desire for him to come to Derby and further his football education," Rush told Sky Sports.

"Andre was the top of Steve McClaren's list of people he wanted to bring in to strengthen the squad. So no, there is no connection with Will Hughes at all.

"There has been no further movement in terms of Will. From our point of view, we are just looking forward to watching him continue to play for Derby County."
