Saido Berahino set to sign new deal

Saido Berahino is expected to end speculation over his long-term future by signing a new three-year contract with West Bromwich Albion this week.

The club are confident the terms they have offered Berahino will see the striker end all concerns that he could leave when his existing contract expires at the end of the current season.

Representatives of the Berundi-born England U21 international are expected to return to Albion this week and tie up the loose ends of the new deal, which will see the 20-year-old net a significant increase on his current terms of 850 pounds per week.

It is believed that the new deal will be worth around 12,000 pounds per week and could also include a further year's option in favour of the club, following a board meeting last Friday to discuss renewals of existing playing contracts.

Head coach Steve Clarke made it clear West Brom would do "the right thing" when it came to looking after the talent they have nurtured since bringing him to the club's academy.

But he also insisted Albion would not be pressurised into rushing into a new deal, after Berahino's representatives complained about the lack of financial reward the youngster was earning at the Premier League club.

Berahino stated recently that he felt a loyalty to the club that gave him his break in the professional game and that he hoped everything would be sorted so he can concentrate on further developing his talent.

Barring any last minute hitches, WBA are confident the formalities of the deal will be completed ahead of facing Crystal Palace at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

That will come as a blow to Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton, who have all sent scouts to watch the highly-rated forward at various junctures following his promising early-season displays.

But Berahino remains fully committed to West Brom following his senior breakthrough and does not want anything to disrupt his campaign.

Having burst onto the scene this season, Berahino is an outside bet to make the senior England squad for the World Cup after Roy Hodgson name-checked him as a possible candidate to make the plane to Brazil next summer.
