Micah Richards eyes long City stay

Micah Richards is adamant he will not leave Manchester City and hopes to play for his only club for another decade.

The England international, who has set his sights on appearing in next summer’s World Cup, also bullishly declared that, when he plays at his best, there is no finer right-back in the Premier League.

Richards came through the City youth system to make his debut in October 2005 and hopes to extend his first-team career at the Etihad Stadium from eight years to 18.

The 25-year-old has less than two years remaining on his current contract and, while City did not want to sell him, he was linked with Arsenal and several Italian clubs in the summer.

But he told the Manchester Evening News: “I'm not leaving City. It's my club and I love it here. Ten more years: that's my aim.”

Richards was City’s first-choice right-back for most of their title-winning campaign of 2011-12 but missed the majority of last year with injuries and, in his absence, Pablo Zabaleta was crowned the club’s Player of the Year.

However, he hopes he can displace the Argentine, adding: “I am back fit now and believe when I'm fit I am as good as anyone in the division playing that role.”

The defender has only made three appearances for City this season and is yet to feature for England under Roy Hodgson but wants to force his way into the World Cup squad.

“I've felt I played well in the three games,” he added. “Brazil would be nice. I've never been! I was supposed to go to a tournament there when I was younger but didn't make it.”
