Wolfsburg eye Kagawa, De Bruyne

Wolfsburg are not ruling out moves for Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa and Chelsea’s Kevin de Bruyne in the winter transfer window.

Kevin de Bruyne has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
Kevin De Bruyne has fallen out of favour at Chelsea.

The Bundesliga side beat Arsenal to the signing of midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich and they are beginning to plan further additions in January with both Kagawa and De Bruyne struggling for playing time in the Premier League.

But the club’s general manager, Klaus Allofs, told Bild that they won’t be held to ransom in their pursuit of new players.

"We want to do reasonable transfers, just like with Luiz Gustavo" Allofs said. "That was exceptional in terms of transfer fee and dimension. We want to continue a selective reinforcement of our squad. Not in heave-ho style"

Allofs signed De Bruyne on loan from Chelsea during his time at Werder Bremen and he remains impressed by the Belgium international’s talent, saying: "At Werder, I have seen just how good De Bruyne is.

"If such players are possible, you of course think about them. But we should not raise the hopes of our fans. In the end they comment: 'Once again, you failed to sign him'."

Wolfsburg might soon have a vacant spot in midfield, with Brazilian midfielder Diego only contracted to the club until 2014.

Recent media reports had suggested, that he could return to Atletico Madrid, for whom he featured in their run to the Europa League crown in 2012, as early as the winter transfer period.

In their last two league games, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking played 19-year old youngster Maximilian Arnold in central midfield and moved Diego to the right wing.
