United apologise for email blunder

Manchester United have apologised to supporters who were offended when a graphic in an email they sent out was deemed to resemble a swastika.

Payne: United stumble to win

It was alongside an article about the younger generation of players at Old Trafford, headlined “New Order”, and with pictures of Adnan Januzaj, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, David de Gea and Rafael da Silva.

That was intended to be a reference to the Mancunian pop group of the same name but New Order was also the term Nazis used to impose their control and political ideology on countries they had conquered.

United are adamant that this was utterly unintentional and are investigating how this happened on the email newsletter ‘United Uncovered’.

They said: “This has caused offence which was entirely unintended. For this, United Uncovered unreservedly apologises.”

Head to media David Sternberg apologised for the incident on Twitter after being criticised by user David Roberts.
