Heart's Kisnorbo injured in 1-0 loss

Melbourne Heart defender Patrick Kisnorbo will undergo scans on his injured knee after suffering suspected tendon damage in Sunday's 1-0 A-League loss to Perth Glory at nib Stadium.

Kisnorbo crumpled to the ground as he attempted to chase down Jamie Maclaren in the lead-up to the Glory striker's 50th-minute winner.

Heart coach John Aloisi was confident the former Socceroo hadn't torn his anterior cruciate ligament, but said the club's medical staff weren't completely sure about the exact nature of the injury.

The loss of Kisnorbo is a big blow to the winless Heart, who could again be without star skipper Harry Kewell for Sunday's clash with Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

Kewell hasn't played since suffering whiplash when a ball was kicked into his head during the club's season-opening draw with Melbourne Victory.

Heart struggled to create any clear-cut chances against Perth, and are in desperate need of some attacking spark after scoring just two goals in their opening three games.

Maltese international Michael Mifsud was starved of opportunities in his Heart debut, but Aloisi is confident the speedy striker will benefit once Kewell is ready to return.

"We saw a glimpse of that in pre-season when Harry and Michael played together. They had a great understanding," Aloisi said.

"Harry finds great positions in that 10 role.

"He's very difficult to pick up.

"It's just disappointing he picked up that injury. we have to make sure we get him right because he's going to be an important player for us this season."

Heart almost snatched a draw against Perth, but Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic pulled off a diving save at the death to parry away David Williams' long-range strike.

Perth dominated the match and would have secured the points much earlier if Brazilian winger Sidnei and defender Scott Jamieson not been denied by the woodwork.

Maclaren failed to play first-team football for English Championship club Blackburn Rovers during his four-year stint in England.

But the 20-year-old is hopeful a successful period with Perth will help launch his career.

Things have started well for Maclaren, who scored six goals in five pre-season games for the Glory before outpacing Kisnorbo to score his first A-League goal.

"It's not only good for him to get a goal on his home debut, but also his contribution to the team is immense," Glory coach Alistair Edwards said.

"It's great that one of the best young players in the country is playing for Perth Glory."

A crowd of 13,856 attended the match at nib Stadium after Glory, in conjunction with Football West, gave away 5000 tickets.
