Phoenix, Jets play out 0-0 draw

The Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets remain without a victory this season after the two A-League combatants played out a 0-0 draw in New Zealand.

The Jets, still without their injured marquee man Emile Heskey, flew across the Tasman still looking for their first goal of the season.

But that search almost came to an end in the first half as only a double-save form Phoenix goalkeeper Glen Moss and a Leo Bertos’ goaline clearance saved the home side from falling behind.

But as the more the match wore on, the more the Phoenix grew into the game, former Costa Rica international Carlos Hernandez smacking a shot off the crossbar.

But despite some cut-and-thrust attacking moves throughout the second-half, a winning goal could not be found by either side.

Perth Glory recorded their first win of the season with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Melbourne Heart on Sunday.

After a dominant first half in which they had 67 per cent of the possession and six shots to the Heart's two, it took just five minutes in the second half for Jamie Maclaren to give Perth the lead at NIB Stadium.

The 20-year-old forward got past defender Patrick Kisnorbo and blasted his first shot into Andrew Redmayne's chest before firing home the rebound.
