Wenger snaps up star of the future

Arsenal set to unleash Ozil-Cazorla duo

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is relishing the prospect of pairing Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil in his starting lineup for the first time against Norwich on Saturday.

Wenger's future at Arsenal could be assured by the Gunners board
Arsene Wenger is looking forward to seeing Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil play together.

Mangan: Wenger's good dilemma
Wenger coy on new deal

Ozil’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium has left many observers questioning where the fit-again Cazorla will fit into the new-look Gunners side.

However, Wenger is bullish about the options the duo provide him with, and he insists there is room for both players in his team.

“You want all your best players to play together in a very positive way,” he said, after confirming Cazorla is only lacking match fitness after a spell in the treatment room.

“I’m very happy at the moment with the team who have played until now, so do not expect anything special. Instead of focusing on one or two players, focus on developing ourselves as a team. There is still room for improvement and a desire inside the team to improve.”

Where Jack Wilshere fits into the side is another question Wenger needs to answer, but he is confident the England international will bounce back from a tricky period on and off the field for club and country.

“Jack is a fighter,” Wenger said. “He is very strong and he has his feet on the ground. He has a very objective assessment of his performances after the games. He will not be carried away or put down by the media.”

Wenger was keen to highlight the statistic that Arsenal have collected more Premier League points than any of their rivals in 2013, but he warned that the visit of Norwich to the Emirates was a potentially dangerous banana skin for his side.

“We have learned something in the last 18 months that everything has changed and every single game is a potential danger to every team in the league,” he said. “Recent results have confirmed that. Every team who is a favourite today is on its toes because they know every game is a potential danger.

“They are much more dangerous because they have [Johan] Elmander, [Ricky] van Wolfswinkel. They have a good midfield technically and they are a dangerous side. They showed that in the last game against Chelsea.

“It is a dangerous game for anybody to play Norwich because they are a team that has a good dynamic and are not afraid to play, but we are showing good consistency.

“It is nice to hear [we have the most points in 2013]. It shows that the situation was not as dreadful as everyone thought it was. We have addressed the situation since November and we are consistent in our results.”

Wenger confirmed that both Ozil and Bacary Sagna should be fit to face Norwich on Saturday after coming through fitness tests.
