Moratti: I'm not abandoning Inter Milan

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has reaffirmed that he will not be leaving the club after selling a 70 percent stake to Indonesian media magnate Erick Thohir and two partners.

Massimo Moratti recruited Jose Mourinho to win the Champions League
Inter won the Treble under Moratti's ownership in 2010.

Moratti, Thohir welcome deal

It is yet to be determined whether Moratti will remain as president, but the 68-year-old will still be showing his face at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to support the Nerazzurri.

"I’ll be remaining in the club with 30 percent so I’m not abandoning Inter," he said. "I’m certainly sticking around because I don’t think I could get used to it any other way. At the moment, I cannot give a definite answer to the presidency question because it does not solely depend on me.

"We need to meet up with all the majority shareholders, all three of them. It’s one thing being an advisor and another being a precise reference point. We’ll meet and I’ll hear what they have to say and we’ll examine their ideas, then I’ll decide."

Moratti’s 18-year ownership of the Serie A club was officially brought to an end on Tuesday when his majority stake was sold to Thohir, with Moratti convinced he is leaving the club "in good hands".

"In fact, they have made a very good impression on me," Moratti told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "We’ve created an excellent relationship and I think they will be capable of doing what they have to do."

The main task is to restore the 2010 Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia Treble-winners to European football's elite once again, although major investment in new players is not likely.

Thohir and his partners appear more keen on raising the global profile of the Nerazzurri, focusing more on international marketing strategies, although for them to succeed they will also need an attractive product.

"They have the potential to do well," continued Moratti. "So far, the discussions we’ve had have focused on the expansion of the club on a global market, of commercial and financial structures.

"I don’t think the Nerazzurri fans can really expect something similar to the purchase of [Gareth] Bale, but then when sentiments and competition with rivals come into it, you just never can tell."
