WL import inspires Roar's A-League keeper

A signing designed to inspire Brisbane's W-League side is boosting their A-League goalkeeper Michael Theo ahead of facing Sydney FC superstar Alessandro Del Piero on Saturday night.

The W-League Roar team were understandably excited about snaring reigning European women's player of the year Nadine Angerer ahead of their November 9 season kick-off.

But the German captain and goalkeeper, a two-time women's World Cup winner and five-time European champion, has also joined the Roar men to train alongside Theo a few sessions a week since her recent arrival.

"It's fantastic to have a German international train with you - her handling is unbelievable," Theo said.

"It's great just to have her presence.

"She surprises me every day, she's amazing.

"She told me she was coming back from a seven-week off-season and was just getting back into it which is pretty scary to be honest."

Theo will continue to fine tune his game for Saturday's clash at Suncorp Stadium after watching Del Piero pick up where he left off from last season for Sydney FC in last week's A-League 2013-14 opener.

The Sky Blues captain opened the scoring before setting up another in their 2-0 win over Newcastle.

"I don't know about nightmares (about facing him) but it's obviously great to challenge yourself against some of the best players in the world," Theo said.

"But we have to defend collectively.

"There's no use saying to Jade North `you mark him, good luck with that"."

The Roar showed signs of their old championship-winning selves in their last gasp 2-1 season opening win over Wellington but Theo was not getting carried away.

"We showed great character in coming back and scored in the 92nd minute - that instils a lot of belief," he said.

"I know this time last year we would not have been able to get that winning goal.

"It's encouraging but it's one game in 27."
