Brazil reignite Costa interest - report

Atletico Madrid centre-half Miranda has suggested his club-mate and fellow Brazilian Diego Costa is switching to Spain as he feels let down by his home country, amid reports Selecao coach Felipe Luis Scolari plans to call up the much sought-after striker for November’s friendlies.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was set to include Costa in his squad for this week’s World Cup qualifiers, until an issue with the paperwork finalising the forward’s switch from Brazil held that move up.

AS now claims that the Confederacion Brasilena de Futbol (CBF) on Monday officially informed the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF) of its intention to include Costa in their panel for next month’s friendlies against Honduras and Russia.

The Madrid-based paper predict the case could be decided by FIFA’s Players' Status Committee (PSC) with Spain likely to win as, although Costa has played two friendlies for Brazil, he is free to decide his own future having not yet played in any competitive senior internationals.

Meanwhile, Miranda, who has featured fleetingly for Brazil under Scolari but like Costa was not called up for last summer’s Confederations Cup or any subsequent friendlies, said his friend’s most pressing concern was to have a chance of playing in a World Cup on home soil.

"From what he has said to me, he has not been given a chance with Brazil, and he is thinking a lot about playing for Spain," Miranda said. "He wants to play at the World Cup, which is a dream for him. Brazil could lose a top player with great potential."

Costa’s situation continues to pop up at all press conferences being taken by Spain’s players during the current international break, with Sergio Ramos the latest to be asked for his thoughts on the matter when he spoke ahead of Tuesday’s final World Cup 2014 qualifier at home to Georgia.

"There is no real point in talking about players who are not here," said a slightly bemused Ramos. "He is a great player, but there are others to decide that. He would be received well, he would get a good reception."
