• Tomas: Move on from Valdes

Spanish radio station Cadena SER claims an agreement is in place with the 21-year-old and the two clubs are close to deciding on a fee, which is reported to be in the region of eight million euros.

Sport also believes the deal will soon be reached, and cites an interview with Sky in Germany. Asked whether there had been contact with Barca, ter Stegen smiled and replied: “Nobody knows.”

He added: “The first thing is to talk with Borussia because my agent and I want to take things step by step. I don’t know whether I will join Barcelona -- the speculation is yours.”

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell had recently said that the club’s preferred option would be to convince Victor Valdes to extend his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season. However, the Spain international appears intent on moving abroad in the summer.

Rosell suggested Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois -- currently on loan at Atletico Madrid -- would be of interest, but the Blues would be unlikely to sell. Additionally, Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, who is spending the season at Napoli, has spoken of his desire to move to the Camp Nou.
