Aspas 'finding it hard' at Liverpool

Iago Aspas has revealed that he is finding life difficult at Liverpool as he struggles to establish himself under Brendan Rodgers.

Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto will be looking to make an impact this season.
Aspas has fallen out of favour at Anfield.

The Spanish striker, signed from Celta Vigo for £7.7 million in June, has yet to score in six appearances for the Reds.

Walsh: Now and then

Aspas has started four of those six matches, but is likely to find starts much harder to come by now that Luis Suarez has returned from suspension to support Daniel Sturridge in attack.

Quoted in the Daily Mail, Aspas said: "I’m finding it hard to be a sub at Liverpool having started games in the past few years. When I left Celta Vigo I was aware that to start for Liverpool wasn't going to be easy. And now the team is winning and we are among the leaders in the Premier League, it's very hard to get a game."

Sturridge, who netted a penalty as England beat Montenegro 4-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Friday night, is the Premier League's leading scorer with six goals, while Suarez has struck three times in two top-flight matches since returning from his ban.

Their goals have helped Liverpool win five of their opening seven league matches, which has left them second in the league.

Aspas, though, is adamant that he can force his way up the Anfield pecking order -- and into the Spain squad too.

The 26-year-old, who has yet to play for his country, saw Swansea striker Michu make his Spain debut in Friday's 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Belarus on the back of his impressive Premier League form.

"I hope to carry on working hard and little by little to get more game time with Liverpool. I want to change the current situation," Aspas added. "Now it's difficult to get in the Spain team because I'm playing less but I'm not worried about that. However, I will try to get in the squad.

"I know Michu and I congratulated him on getting called up by Vicente Del Bosque. I told him to work really hard so he will stay in the squad."
