Sami Khedira in confident mood

Sami Khedira illustrated the confidence of the German side, as he effectively dismissed the challenge of Ireland and said the team "want to score many goals" in Friday’s fixture in Koln.

• Joachim Loew on Philipp Lahm's role for Germany

It was a 6-1 victory in Dublin in October 2012 that set Germany on their way in this World Cup qualifying campaign, and another victory will secure their place at the 2014 World Cup ahead of a trip to Sweden on Tuesday.

"I have tremendously positive memories [of the Dublin fixture]," Khedira said. "We easily won the game but that really was us playing highly concentrated.

"Ireland is no bad opponent at all, a robust side fighting for 90 minutes, and of course [they will] want to make amends for the 6-1 rout suffered at our hands. I think we will play with equal passion and try and impress the German public with our football.

"I think we can be self-assured enough that it will be down to us [on Friday]. We want to score many goals but they will have many tricks and needles to upset us and maybe even score. It will be a test for us to give it all to come away as winners."

Khedira also pointed to the immense strength in depth of the German squad, as he also praised his expected midfield partner Bastian Schweinsteiger as a "model professional".

"There is definitely a lot of quality in Bastian Schweinsteiger but also in other players," he said. "I think the whole system is really designed to show that we are interchangeable. [We have] two players minimum in every position and that’s a fantastic thing for the national coach.

"Schweinsteiger, you don’t need me to tell you what a fantastic footballer he is. He knows what he’s doing over the years for club and country. Playing together with him is great fun. He is a model pro, a top-quality player. I foresee zero problems playing with him again."
