Aogo sets sights on Chelsea scalp

Schalke left-back Dennis Aogo has told Bild that his side are targeting a potentially decisive Champions League win when they host Chelsea on October 22.

Dennis Aogo has been loaned to Schalke for the season.

Schalke currently top Group E, three points ahead of FC Basel and Chelsea, after beating Steaua Bucharest in their opening game then winning 1-0 in Switzerland.

Three points against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea would bring Schalke closer to qualifying for the knockout stages of Champions League, and Aogo is hopeful of upsetting the Europa League holders.

"Of course, that is a big name," Aogo, who joined on loan from Hamburg in the summer, told Bild. "But at home our aspiration is to win that match."

The Royal Blues currently have three players sidelined with knee injuries, including long-term injury victim Kyriakos Papadopoulos who has returned to training this week.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has also sat out for the last seven weeks with a knee injury and is currently training individually, but, despite Schalke’s hopes to have the 2011-12 Bundesliga top scorer available after the international break, remains a doubt for the upcoming weeks.

The biggest injury worry for Schalke coach Jens Keller, however, is the former AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, who is struggling with ongoing knee problems. In the past, Boateng, 26, has undergone surgery to his left knee several times and, during his six weeks at Schalke, has already missed several training sessions with the issues.

With his left knee still swollen, Schalke team doctors have yet to diagnose the extent of Boateng’s problems.

"Boateng knee poses Schalke a riddle,” read German football magazine kicker's headline on Thursday and quoted coach Jens Keller as of saying that “it is important that he’s back on the pitch next week.”

Boateng has scored four goals in his first seven games for Schalke and has recently been played in central attack, deputising for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Adam Szalai, who has also been struggling for fitness.
