Daniel Sturridge 'will be England hit'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said he believes in-form striker Daniel Sturridge can become a major asset for England.

• Usher: Suarez and Sturridge the difference
• Rodgers hails Reds' strike stars

Sturridge and Luis Suarez continued their prolific partnership against Crystal Palace at Anfield, scoring a goal each and creating a host of other problems for the Eagles as Liverpool briefly returned to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win.

The Merseysiders are the top flight's second-top scorers, and the combination of Suarez, back after the ten-match ban imposed for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season, and former Blues man Sturridge has been key to their excellent start.

Rodgers said he believed Sturridge, who has hit 19 goals in 22 Liverpool starts, could also be a major asset for England. "If Daniel maintains the form he is in, he's going to be a real asset," he was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"If you look at him and [Wayne] Rooney as a combination, that would be brilliant for England. You have him and his cleverness, and Rooney in behind him with his movement between spaces and his exceptional quality.

"He's 24, scoring goals and playing well, and that bodes well for him."

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson backed Sturridge and Suarez to continue to wreak Premier League havoc, saying: "I think Luis and Daniel can get even better. In training you can see the link-up play -- they know instinctively where the other is going.

"I think that partnership and their goals can be a massive factor for us. We need to improve on keeping possession and dominating, but going forward we’re as good as anyone.

"It's such a tight league with so little difference between the top teams that having the goals they provide can really make a difference."
