Adnan Januzaj set for huge new deal

Manchester United are ready to offer teenage sensation Adnan Januzaj a new contract worth around £60,000-a-week, according to widespread reports on Monday, as the club prepare to register him for the Champions League.

Adnan Januzaj slotted home coolly to make it 1-1 at Sunderland.
Januzaj fires home one of his two goals in Manchester United's win at struggling Sunderland.

Januzaj, 18, broke into the United side at the start of the season and was the matchwinner at Sunderland on Saturday, scoring his first two goals for the club as David Moyes' team came from a goal down to win 2-1.

A product of the Anderlecht youth system, Januzaj moved to Old Trafford at the age of 16, but he is still on a youth contract and his current deal is due to expire in the summer.

United are determined to prevent another club from coming in and taking one of their brightest young talents, as happened when Paul Pogba chose to leave for Juventus in the summer of 2012. Januzaj has already made as many Premier League appearances for United as Pogba did, suggesting there is more faith in the Brussels-born winger.

His agent, Dirk De Vriese, has suggested there is interest from other clubs.

"I’m not going to say which teams are interested in him, but I can tell you that there is interest from several European clubs," De Vriese was quoted as saying last week. "The departure of Sir Alex Ferguson meant that there was a break in the negotiations, but we are back working on the calls and will see how it goes.

"Januzaj’s father has always been clear about his future as an international. He must have a starting spot somewhere and then he can decide from there.

"There have already been many emails and faxes from the respective bodies to inquire about his future. In Albania, there are even entire television shows about him that have been organised to convince him to choose their national team."

Januzaj has not yet played international football at any level, despite being such a promising talent. He is eligible to play for Belgium, Albania, Turkey, Serbia and Kosovo.

Moyes will add the player to his Champions League 'B' squad on Monday after he became eligible to be registered on the youth list. A player must have been at a club for two continuous years below the age of 21 to be on the 'B' squad.

"He has been so good, it was hard to stop him," Moyes said after the win at the Stadium of Light. "I remember giving Wayne [Rooney] his debut, and Adnan is certainly [of] that quality. He has got goals, he has got ability on the ball, but we will keep his feet on the ground."
