Guardiola: Bayern did everything but win

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola was left without words after his team failed to claim victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

• Schaaf: Bayern, Leverkusen share the spoils

Bayern went to the top of the table after claiming an away 1-1 draw as nearest rival Borussia Dortmund fell to a 2-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach.

But despite returning to the Bundesliga summit and again performing well against a strong opponent, Guardiola bemoaned the lack of all three points.

"Congratulations to my players. I am proud of our performance," Guardiola told Sky Sports Deutschland. "We have played very, very well.

"Nevertheless, we have not won. I do not know what to say. But that's football. [Bernd] Leno is a very good goalkeeper.

"We had done everything, but we are still in first place."

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm echoed his manager’s feelings, believing the reigning European champions had performed to level required of claiming victory.

"Despite clear opportunities we have failed to score," Lahm said. "With the game itself, we can be happy, we were clearly superior.

"We really played well in stages we were and we clearly had the upper hand against a good team like Leverkusen, who had few opportunities.

"The mix between attack and defence was good again."
