Michael Carrick: I want United stay

Manchester United manager David Moyes was happy after watching his side draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine

Michael Carrick hopes Manchester United will offer him a new contract, saying he is keen to extend his seven-year stay at Old Trafford.

Payne: Only way is up
Ferguson: Rooney asked to leave

Carrick, 32, has made 325 appearances for United since joining from Tottenham for £18.6 million in 2006. His contract expires next summer, but he believes he can continue playing for several more years.

He told Sky Sports News: "I'd love to carry on playing as long as possible at this club. It's a fantastic club, I've had great times here. I feel good at the moment. I've just turned 32, so I've got a bit of time yet."

Midfielder Carrick was named last season's United Players' Player of the Year, and was also shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award.

He and goalkeeper David de Gea are the only players to have started United's last two games.

While Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk puts them on course to qualify from their Champions League group, they have made their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Carrick added: "You have periods, whether it is through seasons or through years when things don't quite go right.

"You just have to face it and find a way to get through it. You can't hide and go under. You have to respond. That is what we will do."
