Werder eye loan move for De Bruyne

Werder Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin has told Syker Kreiszeitung that the Bundesliga side would welcome a return of Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne during the winter transfer window.

• Lythell: Chelsea reign

Belgium international De Bruyne spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen and started 33 of a possible 34 Bundesliga games, scoring ten goals and a notching nine assists.

During the summer, De Bruyne returned to Chelsea -- despite the interest of Champions League participants Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen

It was reported on Monday that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had demoted the midfielder to the reserve team and De Bruyne had voiced his anger.

"If Chelsea decides to send him on a loan, we will learn about this," Eichin told Syker Kreiszeitung on Tuesday. "Then we can talk about it. I won’t rule out anything right now." Eichin added that he is aware of De Bruyne’s qualities: "He can immediately help a team."

With Leverkusen and Dortmund having done their business in the transfer market in the summer and the 2014 World Cup only six months away once the January transfer window opens, Eichin believes Bremen have a chance to sign the 22-year old.

"Who knows what will be in December? It could be that Kevin -- also looking ahead to the 2014 World Cup -- needs playing time, which he might not get at top clubs."

Werder Bremen finished last season outside the European qualification places, but under new coach Robin Dutt have made a decent start to their 2013-14 campaign. The Wesersiders have accrued ten points in seven games and currently are ranked eighth in the Bundesliga table.
