Lennon criticises Neymar 'behaviour'

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has criticised Barcelona striker Neymar for his behaviour in the build-up to Scott Brown’s dismissal in the Champions League.

• Ledwith: Barcelona avoid repeat of Glasgow nightmare
• Brewin: Barcelona struggle without their Messi-ah
• Champions League gallery

But Barcelona counter-part Gerardo Martino believes the officials made the right decision.

Barcelona secured a 1-0 away victory in Scotland to keep their 100% record intact and remain at the head of Group H.

However, the game was overshadowed by Brown’s straight red card after French referee Stephane Lannoy gave the Celtic captain his marching orders after he followed through on a tackle that brought down the Brazil international.

But the Parkhead crowd was incensed by the antics of the 21-year-old as replays showed that Brown had made minimal contact after the tackle was made.

And after the match, Lennon took aim at Neymar and his antics after labelling Brown’s dismissal as the tipping point of the match.

"There was a lot more going on in the game that warranted heavier punishment, so it was a game-changing decision," Lennon told the BBC.

"The sending-off is uncalled for and unnecessary. It's very soft. I have looked at it; if there was any contact it was minimal."

"I don't think Neymar does himself any favours by the way he behaves at times.

"So I don't think I need to apologise to Neymar and I don't think I need to justify the defence of my captain."

However, Martino hailed Lannoy for making the ‘correct’ call.

"The sending off was correct, the referee saw it," Martino told reporters after the game.

And despite his men finding it hard to break down the home side’s stubborn defence, Martino said the victory was their best performance of the season.

"It was our most complete game," Martino said. "It was our best of the season. We produced when we had to. We had control of the game at all times.

"We tried to neutralise them and play our game. Except for one shot from which Victor Valdes made a great save, we had no troubles and had the ball."
