Inter's Walter Mazzarri blasts Montella

Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri spoke ahead of his side's game against Fiorentina and admitted that Diego Milito was not quite ready to start

Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri has accused his Fiorentina counterpart Vincenzo Montella of getting it wrong when he claimed the Milan club's wages put them in a different league to his own.

Wilson: Inter denied by Cagliari

Speaking prior to Inter's 2-1 midweek win at the San Siro, Montella had said the money the visitors were able to pay players gave them a big advantage.

But Mazzarri dismissed those claims, saying his Fiorentina counterpart “just talks without even being sure of what he’s saying”. He added: “Probably he’s a bit inattentive and he likes talking about things we could just do without hearing.

"Maths isn’t an opinion, and Inter’s wage bill has dropped from €180 million to €80 million in two years. Now it’s the third highest, not second.

“Inter’s trend is the opposite of those clubs who have not won anything and want to climb to the top, and I’m saying this to put the record straight. I could say a lot more, but I’ll stop here.”

Montella responded by saying: “I know him [Mazzarri] well. He’s good at paying compliments before games, but struggles to do so afterwards.”

Mazzarri was also unhappy that, after the midweek game, his side had played again on Sunday afternoon, drawing 1-1 with Cagliari, while Fiorentina face Parma on Monday.

“I think we should have played on Sunday night at the very least,” he added. “Some things need reassessing because there are sides who are getting more time to recover than others, and we need to ensure that all clubs receive the same treatment. I don’t understand why Fiorentina could play on Monday yet we couldn’t.”
