Gasperini back in the hot seat at Genoa

Gian Piero Gasperini lasted only two games in his latest stint at Palermo

Gian Piero Gasperini is back as head coach at Genoa after the Italian club sacked Fabio Liverani thanks to a dismal start to the Serie A season.

Genoa have won just once in their opening six matches and suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Napoli on Saturday.

Gasperini took Genoa into Serie A back in 2007 and kept the club afloat in his three seasons before being shown the door in November 2010.

But the 55-year-old has been given a second crack at the job by Genoa president Enrico Preziosi.

A statement published on Genoa's official website read: "Genoa has entrusted the care of the first team to Gian Piero Gasperini. The agreement reached covers the next three years.

"The club thanks Fabio Liverani for the work he did and for his dedication to the cause over recent months."

Gasperini had a brief spell at Inter before being sacked after six games. He then moved to Palermo but was sacked after only five months in the job.

Two weeks later he was rehired, replacing Alberto Malesani who lasted only three games. Gasperini was sacked again less than three weeks later.
