Valencia drop Rami following outburst

Adil Rami has been dropped from Valencia’s squad for Wednesday’s La Liga game at Granada after publicly criticising both his team-mates and coach Miroslav Djukic.

Adil Rami has been openly critical of his Valencia team-mates.

Rami had travelled to Granada with the squad on Tuesday evening, but was packed off back to Valencia on an early flight Wednesday morning after his outburst became known.

The France international, 27, had told Radio Valencia show ‘Off the Record’ that he did not trust many of his fellow Los Che players.

"This year we have lost many important players, as always, but above all pillars of the team like [Roberto] Soldado, [David] Albelda, Tino [Costa]… these people talk face-to-face," Rami said. "Now there are lots of ‘pelotas’ [brown-nosers, sycophants] who do not tell the truth to your face, and later they think it is my fault, that I do not want to play, that I ruled myself out, that I am not fine with Djukic and everyone knows it. We will see in the end where we are in the table."

Rami was clearly unhappy about a rumour claiming he had declared himself unfit for last Sunday’s La Liga game at home to Sevilla.

"I had a problem with my ankle from a bang and later the tendon was hurting me," he said. "A day before the game when the physio asks you, you do not know what to answer, because there was a lot of pain. It was a delicate moment and was a question of putting in a player at 100 percent or one who had doubts. That is all there is to it."

The former Lille centre-half did not deny he had clashed with Djukic or that he wanted to leave Valencia.

"If I have to speak about my future I would do it with president [Amadeo Salvo] or [sporting director] Braulio Vazquez," he said. "I have told the truth, everything to the boss’s face. If he likes it or not is another thing, but I did it to keep up my part. I do not speak much in the press."

He also claimed the Serbian boss -- who only took over at Mestalla last summer -- was breaking a promise by not playing him more regularly.

"When I had clubs [who wanted me] this summer he told me, face-to-face, that I could be one of the best centre-halves in the world and that everyone wanted a Rami in their team," he said. "And then I paid [with my place in the team] in the game against Betis. Of course I am not happy. [Djukic] is the captain of the ship and we will see at the end of the season where we are in the table, that is all there is to it. I have to play and that’s it. Football people know that we are not good. I speak and I tell the truth. I am not going to speak in the media. I have to be professional until the end. I am here two years now and I have always been given confidence as the defensive leader.”

It had been thought that Sunday’s 3-1 win over Sevilla had eased the dressing-room ‘issues’ between Djukic and his squad which had become public as the team had lost four consecutive games.

Rami’s fellow defender Jeremy Mathieu has also made his discontent known recently, despite signing a new contract only last June.
