Walter Mazzarri pleased with Inter

Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri has said he is delighted with the progress his side are making after they put seven goals past Sassuolo on Sunday.

Wilson: Milito makes mark

The Nerazzurri have looked transformed under Mazzarri this season after finishing ninth, and missing out on Europe, last season.

The former Napoli coach, described by some best pundits as the club's best signing of the summer, has turned their fortunes around rapidly, surprising even president Massimo Moratti.

"I didn't expect him to make such a difference so quickly," Moratti said. "Mazzarri has roused a sense of joy and duty.

"I saw a side who were focused. Perhaps they did not want to win by such a margin, but we had [Diego] Milito, who was stronger than was fair play. We’re delighted for him."

Milito was on target twice as he returned after a seven-month injury absence. His goals contributed to a result that kept Inter within two points of the Serie A summit -- and Mazzarri said he believed they could still improve.

"I'm not only saying it today because we won so emphatically, but what I'm interested in is the performance -- how well we are growing, how many mistakes we are making," he added.

"We started from scratch and we saw there was a lot of work to do to win back self-confidence, and we’re doing it in the best way possible."

However, Mazzarri stopped short of suggesting that his side could win the Scudetto, telling reporters: "That's for you to decide."

He added: "Any of my players will tell you that I try to convince them that you must never be satisfied with what you've got.

"We have great ambition. If we carry on growing, we can go a long way."
