Turkey sure of hosting Euro 2020 final

Turkey is confident of being awarded the right to host the Euro 2020 final, according to the country's Football Federation general secretary Emre Alkin.

Michel Platini said he was pleased PSG had appointed a French coach
Platini revealed plans to radically change the European Championship for its 2020 edition.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tournament, the 2020 edition of the European Championship will take place in 13 different countries across Europe for the first and last time.

On Friday, UEFA is expected to announce which are the formal applicants to host matches at Euro 2020, with Lyon, Munich and London among the contenders.

Turkish capital Istanbul recently failed to be chosen to host the 2020 Olympics, as it lost out to Japanese counterpart Tokyo, but the nation believes it is "top of the list" for the showpiece in seven years' time.

"It is all about the promises and Mr. Platini in a face-to-face conversation promised us -- and I underline that, promised us -- that if we don't get the Olympic Games we will surely have the final package," Alkin said.

"As far as I am concerned, yes," Platini said in January of backing Istanbul in a future Euro 2020 vote involving his 17-member UEFA executive committee. "For the other members, I don't know."

"We are on the top of the list, without doubt," said Alkin, who expects "three or four, including Turkey" of UEFA's 54 member countries to compete for the final package."
