Marotta: Real made Vidal approach

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta believes Arturo Vidal should carry a world-record price tag following the transfer of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

Juventus decided against selling Arturo Vidal this summer.

Rzouki: Deja-vu in Copenhagen for Juventus

Marotta revealed how the Merengues made an approach for the Chilean midfielder this summer only to receive a firm but polite refusal for a player he believes is worth every bit as much as the Welshman.

"If Bale is worth €100 million, then the same goes for Vidal," he told Mediaset. "Real Madrid expressed an interest this year, but selling him is out of the question so the interest ended there."

Not only is Vidal, Juve’s top goalscorer last season, worth a small fortune, but so too is Paul Pogba, who is set to be rewarded with a new contract aimed at warning off potential suitors.

Since winning the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with France in the summer, Pogba went on to score in the Italian Supercoppa victory over Lazio, while he has impressed in Serie A during Claudio Marchisio’s injury-enforced absence.

"We can say the same about Pogba (as Vidal)," continued Marotta. "He’s a solid element of the team and we’ve turned down all the offers we’ve received for him. He’s exploded in an almost unexpected way, so compliments to the lad but also to [coach Antonio] Conte who has managed to get the best out of him.

"If he confirms his status at the highest of levels, as we obviously hope he will, then this should be recognised with an increased salary."

Marotta also believes that Carlos Tevez should be recognised for the qualities he brings on the field and not remembered for his past controversies.

"He’s a very serious professional," Marotta said. "All top players have their defects, but certainly we’ll leave him these defects if the good points are superior. He’s made a great impression."
