Prem may visit Ashley Young over diving

Manchester United's Ashley Young has been warned that he could face a visit from the footballing authorities if he carries on diving.

• Brewin: Moyes makes Marouane wait
Payne: United save reserves for UCL test

The winger was cautioned for going to ground dramatically in Saturday's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, a decision that was supported by manager David Moyes, who rebuked him for diving.

But Palace chairman Steve Parish called for divers to be shown a red card after Young lost his balance again when Kagisho Dikgacoi challenged him and referee Jonathan Moss sent off the South Africa international and awarded a penalty -- even though replays suggested it was outside the box.

Young's yellow card -- when Dikgacoi was also the Palace player involved -- was the first for diving in his United career but he has been booked for simulation playing for both England, in the 0-0 draw with Montenegro in 2010, and his former club Aston Villa.

And Premier League spokesman Phil Dorward told The Sun: "If a player is continually booked for diving, and it becomes a problem, we'll visit the club and talk the player through what is a dive and what isn't.

"Diving is seriously frowned upon in the English game by everybody, including the players, because it's seen that you're conning a fellow professional."

United manager Moyes said on Saturday: "I've always said I don't like diving. He deserved to get booked. I don't want any of my players diving, I don't want anybody doing it.

"If you look at it (the penalty), the boy definitely throws his leg out and Ashley's leg goes into it. I think Ashley has put his leg into it. But I will definitely say to Ashley that it is not what I want."

Young had already acquired a reputation for diving, particularly in 2012 when he won controversial penalties in consecutive weeks against QPR, whose midfielder Shaun Derry was sent off for his challenge, and Aston Villa.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who was then United manager, said he "had a word" with Young at the time.

Since making his Premier League debut in 2006, Young has won 12 penalties, the joint most by anyone in the division's history, while Dorward said he is the only player booked for diving so far this season.
