Aspas: Title a realistic goal for Reds

Liverpool striker Iago Aspas has said he believes winning the Premier League is a realistic goal for his side this season.

Iago Aspas scored on his non-competitive Liverpool debut against Preston.
Aspas has shown promise in his early days at Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers' men sit in third place with a perfect record of three wins from three Premier League games, and Aspas says they are in a strong position to challenge for domestic honours.

Ahead of Monday's trip to Swansea, Aspas talked up Liverpool's chances of not only breaking into the top four but also having a serious shot at the title.

"We have an excellent attack," he told the Sunday People. "With Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, we are able to break any defence. It is certainly not madness to aspire to winning the title this season."

Aspas has started all three of Liverpool's league games this season but will face further competition for his place when Suarez returns from suspension later this month.

But the Spaniard says he has settled into his new surroundings and is ready to focus on making his mark at Anfield.

"I am still at the stage where I am adapting in Liverpool to the clothes and the food," he added. "But the people here relate to football and music, and for me it is a pleasure to live this experience. I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and Liverpool are known all over the world."

Meanwhile, Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has said he believes the Merseysiders are realistic contenders to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

"They have started well, winning the first three games and beating Manchester United," he added. "We will still have to see how things will turn out, as it is early in the season, but they are very close to Arsenal and Tottenham.

"They are definitely a better side than last year, and they will be battling for the top four."
