Mata ready to fight for Chelsea place

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has reiterated his commitment to fighting for his place in Jose Mourinho's starting line-up, despite the stiff competition in the Blues' midfield.

Juan Mata has barely featured this season.
Mata is hopeful of earning a start at Everton.

Mata is hoping to earn a start in Chelsea's trip to Everton on Saturday after completing his recovery from a number of niggling injuries.

With Oscar, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle and new signing Willian providing an enviable selection headache for Mourinho, Mata has conceded it will be difficult to play regularly, but insists he is up for the challenge.

"I think it is very good for the club, for the squad and for the manager," he told Sky Sports News. "I think they are really good -- De Bruyne, Schurrle, Willian, they are quality young players. Each one has his different position, his different skills, but I think all of them can give us a lot and I think it is better to have a more complete squad.

"I wish we could play six together but it is not possible. But it is good for the club for all the competitions we have to face this season.

When questioned on whether he is confident of reclaiming his spot as a first choice, Mata added: "I am very optimistic and positive. To be honest it has been a difficult position for me with an injury so I could train less than my team-mates, but now I am feeling better and I am looking forward to playing. I will try to do my best like in the last two seasons and try to win and score and assist."

The Spain international also revealed he had talks with Mourinho during the summer amid interest from other Premier League clubs and the Portuguese boss assured him of his position at Stamford Bridge.

"We spoke about it and he said I was very important for him and for the squad, so my aim hasn't changed," he said. "I want to be as good as I was in the last two seasons and even improve, to become a better player."
