Bafetimbi Gomis in demand - agent

Sevilla and Atletico Madrid were among the many clubs who made contact about signing Bafetimbi Gomis last summer, according to the Lyon centre-forward’s agent.

Bafetimbi Gomis' Lyon career had looked to be over.
Gomis came close to joining Newcastle in the summer.

Gomis this week said he would not extend his contract at Lyon as he remains "disappointed" by the club's treatment of him this summer - which included OL president Jean-Michel Aulas publicly saying he wanted the French international to leave so the club could make back some of the €15 million they paid Saint-Etienne for him in 2009.

The French international’s representative Francesco Di Frisco said in Estadio Deportivo that a host of European sides had inquired about his client, but only Newcastle had come close to agreeing terms with Lyon or the player.

“There was contact with Tottenham, Sevilla, Atletico, Fiorentina, Lazio and Roma,” said Di Frisco. “But none got to the stage of presenting a formal offer, except Newcastle, who we were close to closing a deal with.”

Gomis, 28, was now going to see out last 12 months of contract at Lyon now but “he has no intention of remaining there” beyond next summer, Di Frisco said.
