Pardew: Yohan Cabaye ready to fire

Alan Pardew is optimistic that midfielder Yohan Cabaye is ready to fire on all cylinders away to Aston Villa this weekend.

• Duffy: Ameobi: Future star?

The 27-year-old endured an unsettling summer on Tyneside amid heavy speculation that he could be leaving the club. Linked to Monaco, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, but only Arsenal actually submitted a bid for that was promptly rejected.

Now at the club at least until January, Cabaye will no doubt be eager to get back into the first team after being left out of France’s most recent squad due to lack of playing time at club level.

That saw him stay at the club’s Benton base this week to continue fitness work, with Alan Pardew hoping for a repeat performance from last season in which Cabaye scored a delightful shot from the edge of the area.

“Loic Remy has had a good week and Yohan Cabaye stayed behind and has had a full week here,” Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.

“He’s been able to get a lot of work done. His wife has just had a baby too. Yohan has just got on with his work and settled down. He’s getting on with the job in hand.

“He’s been terrific and he’s just got his head down to get on with life. He changed the game that day in one of his early appearances. He helped us get the ball down and play and destroyed Aston Villa with some great runs.”
