Willian targets Brazil WC squad

New Chelsea attacker Willian is targeting a spot in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil squad for next year’s World Cup.

• Lythell: Chelsea set to exploit title rivals

And the 25-year-old admits he has to break into the Chelsea team to realise his international dream.

Willian completed his move to the Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala last month, snubbing a move to Tottenham along the way.

And after switching the Russia for the Premier League, the striker immediately set his sights on being picked to play on home soil for next year’s World Cup, aware he must first work his way into the starting line-up of the reigning Europa League champions.

"I know that I haven't secured my spot (at Chelsea), but I will do my best to achieve that place, while respecting the other players,” Willian told Globo Esporte.

"I will train, play and do my best to get the trust of the manager and of the fans. There is no doubt English football is very big, with huge visibility. I hope that helps me to be called up for the national team but of course that depends on me.

"I will have to play and prove I deserve that spot. I first have to become a regular starter, then play well and be called up [by Brazil], this is my goal."

Chelsea, under returning boss Jose Mourinho, have made a number of impressive signings during the summer including Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel and Samuel Eto’o.

But when Mourinho became aware of the chance to secure Willian, the Portuguese manager jumped at the chance to add further depth to his attacking department.

"Things just happened,” Willian said. “Chelsea came with an offer and everyone knows that I wanted to play for the club since I was at Shakhtar.

"It shook me but I didn't think twice. As both presidents [Suleyman Kerimov and Roman Abramovich] are friends, that helped too. It was a very easy negotiation.

"The Brazilians [at Chelsea] called me, especially David Luiz, who told me to come quickly. I was very happy to have them around and they will certainly help me a lot. I wanted to play at Chelsea, even more so now with Jose Mourinho, who is the best at what he does.

"When I had a day off, I came to watch the club's games, so I am more than happy for having made this transfer become true."
