A-League: Mariners move to second spot Video

Roar's midfield duo has Berisha buzzing

Brisbane's acquisition of midfield pair Liam Miller and Matt McKay is a dream come true for star striker Besart Berisha.

The Albanian is one of the deadliest forwards in A-League history, notching 35 goals in his two seasons with the Roar and scoring the only goal for the A-League All-Stars in a friendly match against English giants Manchester United in July.

But the creativity and ability McKay and Miller will bring to the Roar's midfield for the upcoming season has Berisha believing 2013-14 could be his best season in Australia yet.

Miller, a former Manchester United and Celtic player, has come to the club after two seasons with Perth Glory while Socceroo McKay is returning to Brisbane after a stint overseas in Scotland, South Korea and China.

"A striker like me can be no more happy than to have a Liam Miller, a world-class player," Berisha told AAP on Tuesday.

"I really love him. He's really great and now we get another one with Matty McKay.

"It's crazy to get players like these two around me and then Thomas (Broich) and Ivan (Franjic), it just makes a striker's life easier.

"Everybody knows I love goals. This is what the team needs to win a game and I think with these kinds of players ... to have a team like that for a striker, it's everything."

Berisha, who is ready to play in this weekend's pre-season match against Melbourne Victory after sitting out the Roar's previous game against Central Coast, says there's a new feeling around the club going into the season.

Rado Vidosic only lasted 11 games as the successor to championship-winning coach Ange Postecoglou last season but Vidosic's replacement Mike Mulvey has since stabilised the club.

Berisha believes that certainty will go a long way to ensuring the two-time A-League winners get themselves challenging for honours once again.

"There was a lot of transition last year and we nearly came back and nearly made it again (to a grand final)," he said.

"Now we feel from day one we're really ready to fire up. It's definitely better than last year."
