Jurgen Klopp: I'm staying at Dortmund

In-demand Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has told a TV show he has no plans to leave the club before 2016, while the club’s CEO Aki Watzke said he would never sack him.

• Low set to extend deal
• Klose praises Muller

Klopp, who has been at Dortmund since 2008, is under contract until 2016. He has guided the club to two German championships and a DFB-Pokal and took them to this year’s Champions League final, which they lost to Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, Klopp told Sport1’s Doppelpass programme: “I feel great at Dortmund. My coaching team feels great at Dortmund.

“When things are working in good order, you don’t have to permanently look elsewhere just to find out if things are equally nice there. We have great conditions at Dortmund.

“Dortmund is a great club, and we perceive it as fortunate that we found each other."

When asked whether he would ever consider taking on the German national job, he said: “I would never breach my contract. I’d therefore need to be on the market.”

Watzke -- who, with general manager Michael Zorc, hired Klopp -- said it had not been difficult to convince him to stay at Dortmund over the summer.

The club’s run to the Champions League final had attracted the attention of several European clubs, and he was linked with both Real Madrid and Manchester United.

But Watzke told kicker: “Jurgen knows what he has here. Jurgen knows the teamwork and the friendship we have cultivated here.

“He is way too intelligent to not rate this as highly as possible. Jurgen does not sign contracts only to breach them. He has never done that. He is under contract until 2016, and he will abide by his contract. It is the same the other way round. I would never sack Jurgen Klopp. Never. Not at any time.”

But Watzke added that there had so far been no talks about renewing Klopp’s deal, explaining: “In 2016, Jurgen will have been here for eight years.

“That is a long time, but he has not gone stale. Therefore it is evident that we are always interested in continuing our work with Jurgen.”
