Stephan El Shaaraway reveals interest

Stephan El Shaarawy has claimed both Manchester City and Real Madrid were keen to sign him in the summer.

Paul: El Shaarawy marginalised

The Italy international striker stayed at AC Milan, and insisted he was happy to remain with the Rossoneri.

He revealed that City and Real had tried to tempt him away from the San Siro, telling FourFourTwo: "I was very happy that Manchester City and Real Madrid wanted to sign me, but I want to stay where I am.

"I am a Milan fan and Milan is my home. This is a big club that aims very high, and I feel like I am a part of it now."

City bought two other forwards, Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo for £20 million and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic for £23 million, before being linked with El Shaarawy at the end of the transfer window, while Real invested a world record sum in Gareth Bale.

El Shaarawy, who joined Milan from Padova in 2011, signed a five-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2018.

The 20-year-old said he was convinced he could play with Mario Balotelli, even though he found goals harder to come by after his fellow striker’s arrival from City in January.

He added: "I actually think he makes me better. We play well together, we pass the ball to each other -- we have great chemistry."
