Mazzarri the 'new Paul Ince' at Inter

Widely regarded as Inter Milan's best signing this summer, coach Walter Mazzarri has been likened to Paul Ince for the impact he has already made on the club.

Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri says the team are only starting their journey.
Mazzarri appears to have turned around Inter's fortunes.

Making the comparison was Inter president Massimo Moratti, who paid the team a visit on Thursday to take a close look at a side which have won their first two games of the new Serie A season, scoring five goals without conceding.

Moratti was in charge when former England international Ince pulled on a Nerazzurri shirt between 1995 and 1997, becoming a leader respected on the pitch and revered by the fans off it, in spite of his only brief spell in Serie A.

In an even shorter space of time, former Napoli coach Mazzarri has shown he can have the same affect by wearing his heart on his sleeve in the same way.

"He works a great deal, like a player who takes all of the responsibility on the field, like Ince," Moratti said. "He (Ince) was here for a year and a half, but he remains in everybody's minds as a great Interista and a person who is appreciated.

"Mazzarri has clear ideas and a way of operating which is beautiful, both with the players and with the club. It's only right that he has been taken to everybody's hearts."

Moratti left the club's training ground even more satisfied than when he arrived, impressed with the work Mazzarri has done in transforming a side which delivered the worst season under his regime last year. With a negative goal difference, shoring up the defence has been Inter's priority this summer and Moratti is delighted with what he has seen so far.

"A strong defence is fundamental for a strong side," Moratti told reporters. "I learned this as a lad watching Inter back then. When we won, we always had a functional defence and now we are starting to get it back."
