Pardew backs Cabaye for redemption

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has insisted midfielder Yohan Cabaye will reclaim his status as a fans favourite on Tyneside, despite the midfielder expressing interest in a move to Arsenal during the transfer window.

Cabaye's transfer troubles saw him left out of France's squad this week.

Cabaye was unavailable for Newcastle’s first two games of the season against Manchester City and West Ham, after Pardew confirmed his "head was turned" by an offer from Arsene Wenger's Gunners.

Yet the Newcastle manager is convinced the France international will re-emerge as a key man in his team, after Arsenal failed to follow up their offer with a deal that would have tempted the Tyneside club to part with their key player.

"That whole situation will resolve itself," Pardew is quoted in the Daily Mirror. "We will speak with Yohan and with his representatives to make sure that we go forward hand-in-hand.

"There is a lot of talking to be done between now and Aston Villa [Newcastle's next fixture], but getting him out there for a few minutes in our last game [against Fulham last weekend] will make it easier to move on.

"The guy has a World Cup at the end of the year and he is a big part of France's plans. He hasn't been picked this week and I think that was a bit of a shock to him. It was only because of the [transfer] situation because I think he’s nailed on in their team."

Pardew is refusing to be drawn into extended public comments over Newcastle's failure to land any of the transfer targets he had sought to sign before Monday's transfer deadline, yet the club's much-maligned Director of Football, Joe Kinnear, has come under fire after he only managed to add striker Loic Remy to the first team squad in a loan deal from QPR.
