Fabregas vows to end career at Barca

Cesc Fabregas has claimed he wants to end his career at Barcelona and insisted he would not have joined Manchester United even if they had offered to double his wages this summer.

United had two bids for Fabregas rejected by Barca in the early stages of the transfer window, with Old Trafford officials apparently encouraged to continue their pursuit of the 26-year-old despite those initial rejections.

Fabregas waited many weeks to bring the rumours of a possible move to United to an end with a public statement, but now he claims the threat of being edged out of the Barcelona team is inspiring rather than concerning in a season that will end with the World Cup finals.

"The tougher the challenge the better I like it and Barcelona was the biggest and most difficult, and I want to finish in a happy manner and if I can retire at Barca, then so much the better," Fabregas told Caneda Cope radio.

"The only thing in my head is triumphing at Barcelona. When I arrived at Barcelona I already knew there were other places where I could earn more or where I could have more minutes, but coming to Barca was my dream.

"It was my dream since I was small. I wouldn't go, not even for double the money."

Meanwhile, Fabregas has expressed his shock at Mesut Ozil's move from Real Madrid to his former club Arsenal, as he hinted Barcelona's chief rivals in La Liga may miss the German midfielder.

"I was really surprised by Ozil's departure," Fabregas added. "He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano [Ronaldo]. He'll be great for Arsenal."
