Motta left out of Juventus CL squad

Juventus full-back Marco Motta faces an uncertain future at the club after he was left out of the Serie A giants' Champions League squad.

Rzouki: Juve should be proud
Three-way deal collapses

With the transfer window now closed, players all around Europe know where they will be spending their next four months at least.

That is surely the case with Motta. Used fleetingly since Antonio Conte took charge, Stephan Lichtsteiner remains the preferred choice in a position the coach rarely rotates.

However, with the number of games the Bianconeri have to face this season, former Roma player Motta could have been understood for expecting to get the occasional first-team opportunity in Serie A or a potential dead rubber Champions League final group game -- should Juve have already qualified by then -- would have been the ideal chance for him to get his muscles warm.

The former Italy international Motta will not be running out against Galatasaray in December, however. The 27-year-old will not be running out against Copenhagen or Real Madrid either this year after being left out of Juve’s Champions League squad for the group stage.

The full-back spent last season on loan at Bologna, yet not even they wanted to keep him permanently. While the Bianconeri were focusing on keeping hold of Fabio Quagliarella and Mauricio Isla as the clock ticked down on the conclusion of the summer transfer market, it appears they forgot about Motta.

With the market still open in Turkey, Romania and the Middle East, Motta may not have to spend the next four months on the bench in Turin, but when the Champions League music is being played at the Juventus Stadium, he will find himself among the 40,000 fans in the stands - at best.

Simone Pepe appeared to be in the same situation, yet he has been included in Conte’s 24-man selection for Europe. Given his versatility, he can even take the place of Lichtsteiner should the Swiss be absent, leaving Motta with the only hope that the January transfer window will have better news for him.
