Isco accepts competition for places

Real Madrid midfielder Isco is resigned to taking his place on the bench in Spain's friendly against Finland this weekend, but is hopeful of impressing Vicente Del Bosque.

Isco celebrates his penalty for Spain in the Under-21 European Championship final.
Isco has made one senior appearance for Spain.

The 21-year-old received another call up to play for La Roja and appreciates the stiff competition for a starting place in Spain's midfield, having earned just one senior cap despite his impressive performances for Malaga last season.

"We are all proud to come and play for Spain," he said. "The match against Finland is an important one. I would like to play but there is a lot of competition in the squad and it is difficult to get a place in the team. There are many good players in my position."

Isco has also praised the arrival of new recruit Gareth Bale, insisting the Welshman can help Real continue their perfect start to the La Liga season.

"I am happy that we've won all three games this season," he added. "That's what matters the most. I have played in three games and have the confidence of the coach and my team-mates.

"Bale? It was about time he came. Everybody knows he is a good player. He's a great player and can come to help."
