Clement Grenier out of France squad

From French troublemaker to Europe's best player - Franck Ribery has come a long way in three years.

Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has been forced to withdraw from France's back-to-back 2014 World Cup qualifiers with a hamstring injury.

Grenier joins Etienne Capoue in missing France's upcoming qualifiers.

Grenier, 22, made his senior international debut during Les Bleus' summer tour of South America, and would have been likely to feature in his country's upcoming trips to Georgia and Belarus.

However, the midfielder has now joined Tottenham Hotspur's Etienne Capoue in pulling out of Didier Deschamps' squad having already missed Lyon's defeat to Evian-Thonon-Gaillard in Ligue 1 last Saturday due to the problem, picked up during his club's elimination from the Champions League in San Sebastian last week.

"He came to the national team get-together at Clairefontaine insufficiently recovered from a muscle lesion of the left hamstring sustained during the return leg against Real Sociedad," a statement from the French Football Federation read

"The clinical examinations carried out on Monday established that the player is not in a state to prepare for the upcoming international encounters in satisfactory conditions, and after exchanges between the Lyon and France medical staff, Didier Deschamps has decided to make the player available to his club."

National team boss Deschamps had called up another Lyon player, Maxime Gonalons, to replace Capoue, but no player has yet been selected to compensate for the loss of Grenier.
