Figo tipped to replace Leonardo at PSG

Le Parisien claims Luis Figo heads the list of potential successors to Leonardo as sporting director of Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Leonardo, 43, quit his role at the Parc des Princes after almost two years following the capture of Edinson Cavani on July 16.

Having asked director general Jean-Claude Blanc and deputy sporting director Olivier Letang to complete the Brazilian's work during the remainder of the transfer window, PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi recently stated the club was in no hurry to appoint a full-time successor, and even suggested they may not fill the position.

However, Tuesday's edition of Le Parisien states that Al Khelaifi has a three-man shortlist of potential appointees, with Figo's name at the top.

The former Portugal international, 40, currently holds an ambassadorial role at Inter Milan, the last club of his illustrious playing career, and, though he has no experience as a sporting director, his contacts forged at the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, and his ability to speak several languages, including Italian -- a major asset with the PSG squad made up of several former Serie A players -- make him an ideal candidate.

The newspaper claimed former PSG forward Pauleta, who played for the club between 2003 and 2008 and who even occupied ambassadorial functions for the reigning French champions, is also on the list, though he is behind his former international team-mate Figo in the running.
