Rodgers content with summer additions

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is happy with his deadline day business despite missing out on a late move for Shay Given.

Brendan Rodgers believes a Premier League title isn't too far away for Liverpool
Rodgers made eight summer signings.

Rodgers moved early on Monday to complete deals for defenders Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho, as well as winger Victor Moses.

Ilori signed for £7 million from Sporting Lisbon, Sakho from Paris Saint-Germain for £12 million and Moses on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

A deal for Aston Villa's 37-year-old keeper Given was also a possibility, only to fall through -- but Rodgers is happy to press on with Brad Jones as back-up to first choice Simon Mignolet.

The manager has finished the window with eight senior signings -- with Ilori, Sakho and Moses adding to the summer arrivals of Mignolet, central defender Kolo Toure, left-back Aly Cissokho, midfelder Luis Alberto and forward Iago Aspas.

He has also held on to last season's 30-goal top scorer Luis Suarez, who looked likely to move during the close season after declaring publicly that he wanted to leave Anfield.

Rodgers said: "I'm obviously very pleased. The window this summer has been very productive for us. We've certainly got more competition and as a manager you always want more, but we're more than happy with the business we've done.

"We've added freshness to the group. What we were looking to bring in was hunger -- even though Kolo Toure is 32, he's very hungry to succeed.

"We've done great business over the course of the summer -- and we'll run with that until January and see where we're at then. I'm sure we'll look to strengthen again and finish off the second part of the season like we did last season."
