Lukaku, Barry, McCarthy join Everton

Everton have completed a triple signing, bringing in Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Manchester City’s Gareth Barry on season-long loans and signing Wigan's James McCarthy for £13 million, they have confirmed on their official website.

Shortly before the transfer window closed on Monday night, it had appeared Belgium international Lukaku, 20, would return to West Brom, for whom he scored 17 Premier League goals on loan last season.

But writing on his Twitter account, the striker confirmed that he would instead be moving to Merseyside on a season-long deal.

Later, a statement on Chelsea’s official website confirmed that Lukaku "will spend a second season on loan at a Barclays Premier League club, with a move to Everton completed".

It said the deal would "follow on from a year of significant progress at West Bromwich Albion".

The signing of Republic of Ireland international midfielder McCarthy, 22, was another late development, coming soon after Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had said the offer the Goodison Park club had made was not close to what the Championship Latics were seeking.

But within minutes of the transfer window closing at 11pm BST, reports began to emerge that an improved offer had been accepted and Whelan told BBC Radio Five Live: "They’ve been realistic and have matched our valuation. They are going to pay us much, much quicker than they said they would earlier."

Everton sources, meanwhile, told ESPN the Toffees would be paying all England midfielder Barry’s wages -- around £120,000 a week -- making the 32-year-old the best-paid player in their history.
