Peter Odemwingie joins Cardiff

Cardiff City have signed Peter Odemwingie after West Bromwich Albion at last decided to wash their hands of the forward who has caused them eight months of problems.

• Theophile-Catherine joins Cardiff

Odemwingie, 32, has had three Premier League clubs on his trail in recent days but the Bluebirds have taken the plunge with a deal believed to be worth ***.

Cardiff’s bitter rivals Swansea had also been interested in a player who had been a considerable success at The Hawthorns until his infamous appearance at Queens Park Rangers on the final night of the winter transfer window.

The Nigeria international scored 31 goals in 90 appearances for the Baggies after arriving from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010.

He was, however, limited to substitute appearances from mid-January onwards, and has not been part of West Brom’s first-team squad this season.

Around the time of his failed move to QPR in January, Odemwingie produced a succession of Twitter rants that further alienated him from both Hawthorns officials and supporters.

Odemwingie confirmed the move on his Twitter account in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The forward becomes the eigth player to join Cardiff this summer following the arrivals of Gary Medel, Steven Caulker, Andreas Cornelius, John Brayford, Simon Moore, Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Maximiliano Amondarain.
