Kaka delighted to return 'home'

Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri is happy with his attacking options after a 3-1 victory over Cagliari.

Kaka said it was great to be home as he was greeted by a crowd of fans at Linate airport following his move from Real Madrid to AC Milan.

• Paul: Milan fail to fully convince

Kaka’s return to the club he represented for six years, winning one Serie A title and the Champions League before moving to Spain in 2009, has captured the imagination of the Rossoneri fans, who struggled to come to terms with his departure four years ago.

The 31-year-old landed in Lombardy at midday local time on Monday together with Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliani, who hammered out a deal in Madrid late into the night, and the huge smile on the Brazilian’s face said it all.

"After a difficult time in Madrid, this is great for me and I’m really delighted," he told reporters outside Linate’s terminal. "I was sad to leave in the first place, but these things happen and now, with four years more experience, I’m delighted to return."

Kaka was whisked off for a medical before putting pen to paper on a two-year contract and being presented with his old and new number 22 shirt at the San Siro.

"I’m Kaka, I’m 31 and I want to have the same joy I had with this team in the past," Kaka added. "We’ve got a young side with great players who share my desire to do really well. I’m delighted to have Robinho as a team-mate too.

"We play together in the national team and I’m delighted to be in the same club team as him. I think [playing for] Milan could take me to play another World Cup with Brazil, but I’ve got to play here. It was the right time to leave Real.

"I did all I could there, but things were not working out and when Carlo [Ancelotti] arrived and I saw I would get even less room, I knew it was the right moment to leave and return home, which is what I am doing -- I’m returning home."

Kaka is understood to have accepted a drastic cut in his wages to rejoin the Rossoneri, but that, he insists, is not an issue.

"Money was never my first motivation," he said. "I wouldn’t say that I’m not earning well, but that’s never been my primary motivation."
